McKenzie County Fairgrounds and Multi-Purpose Building

The current McKenzie County Fairgrounds offers 30,000 sq. ft.  of space and is used to house indoor events, such as indoor rodeos, fair free stages, community barbecues, car shows, etc. Showers are available for use by the public upon request. A heated concession area is also available for use by groups large and small.

In September 2021, members of the McKenzie County Commission and Fair Board held a ground breaking celebration commemorating the beginning of construction for the new Ag and Youth Expo facility. The building will be 112,000 square feet with opportunities for rodeos, tradeshows, motorsports and much more. The project is expected to be completed in time for the McKenzie County Fair in summer 2023. The project is located at the intersection of the Highway 85 bypass and 25th Street NW west of Watford City.

In Spring 2023, Ag Expo Director Chris Kubal gave county commissioners an update, saying they are less than 100 days from opening their gates to the public. He added that most regional 4-H groups had toured the building and were excited to see it completed.

“With the excitement, I think our exhibits are going to go way high, which is super exciting,” said Kubal.

County commissioners approved funding for several pieces of equipment, including more bleachers, panels and a point-of-sale system.

The McKenzie County Fair is scheduled for June 14-17, 2023.
